WuBook optimizes the management of a small family-run hotel in the Spanish Pyrenees

Dear WuBookers, today we’re taking you to Tredós to share a unique story, one we believe many of you will relate to. In this small Catalan village nestled against the Spanish Pyrenees, Nuria Moga Domingo runs a small hotel and a few vacation apartments almost entirely on her own. “Almost”, because in addition to the support of a few staff members during peak season, she has relied on WuBook to manage her business since 2019. Here’s how it went.

A small mountain hotel on the border with France

Nestled among the mountains and very close to the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, Tredós is a village as small as it is charming. Home to just a few hundred residents year-round, it attracts tourists and sports enthusiasts, including skiers and hikers, during the high season. The landscape is dominated by snow-capped peaks, lakes, and rivers, offering unique trails and views. It is here that Nuria Moga Domingo runs her hotel business.

“It all started with a small plot of land that my father had purchased more than forty years ago,” she tells us, “on which he built two houses and three apartments. We managed everything with an Excel spreadsheet.” Then, in 2019, they decided to also purchase the Hotel Eth Saueth, and so their needs changed as well. The hotel, with its vibrant red facade and interiors furnished simply yet comfortably, now has 11 rooms and can accommodate up to 25 guests. This intense workflow added to that generated by the other accommodations: “That’s when WuBook became part of our management.”

A PMS that has been with the property from the very beginning

“We’re a very small operation,” Nuria continues, “but we handle a variety of activities: we also run a rental shop and a ski school, and a restaurant at the foot of the Baqueira slopes…” Added to this is the bed & breakfast service for hotel guests and overnight stays at the other accommodations. “It was essential to automate reservations and integration with OTAs,” says Nuria, who has since been using Zak, the PMS by WuBook, and its integrated Channel Manager. These solutions have simplified her life and boosted the visibility of her accommodations. “I save a lot more time and can list my properties on various agencies without running the risk of overbooking!” Thanks to these tools, in fact, Nuria is able to manage the entire promotion and sales process across different portals quickly, efficiently, and accurately, without errors and without diverting valuable resources from other activities.

But this isn’t the only benefit the owner has found.

Equally important to her is the ability to communicate directly with the INE (the Spanish National Institute of Statistics) for submitting official reports and to easily manage invoices, taxes, and fees. Institutional and tax compliance is, in fact, a distinctive feature of Zak that allows you to keep all the bureaucracy under control at all times, adapting to the legal requirements of the various countries where it operates. And there’s more. “WuBook is constantly evolving, and you’re always coming across surprising innovations.” An example? “Communication via WhatsApp, which helps a lot with managing check-ins and welcome messages: a real success!”

Evolutions in step with the times and market needs

For a small yet complex business like Nuria’s, which places great emphasis on direct relationships with travelers, being able to rely on an in-PMS messaging service was a game-changer. Not only on a practical level, sending information via WhatsApp and email from a single platform is certainly convenient, but also regarding the hotel’s reputation. “What sets us apart is our focus on the customer.” A focus that manifests in many ways, from the breakfast offerings to cleanliness to value for money. But also in the thoughtful touches leading up to the actual stay: communications via Zak have been a clear step forward, with very positive results in guest perception. “Plus, it’s multilingual, and that also saves time and conveys professionalism,” adds Nuria, who has recently been considering adding a link to payment gateways as well.

Beyond technology: “human” support

Technological development that keeps pace with the times, however, isn’t the only factor that convinced the hotelier right from the start. In her view, Zak’s strengths also include its extreme ease of use, the assistance received in implementing various features, and support in troubleshooting. “The assistance from Ricard and Rodrigo is truly excellent!” This human touch is something we find in many of the WuBook reviews and that we cultivate with great dedication. Especially because we know how important it is in general, and particularly for properties with limited staff or those having their first experience with management software, as in Nuria’s case.

“I came across WuBook somewhat by chance, while searching online for something that could fit my needs,” she confesses before saying goodbye, “I didn’t know much about it, but it actually turned out to be an excellent choice for managing my accommodations. I’ve recommended it highly, and everyone I’ve told has been incredibly grateful.”

The same goes for us!
